MTPD Apprenticeship Applications Open

We are delighted to announce our new apprenticeship for promising young musicians in the West Yorkshire area

The MTPD Apprenticeship aims to nurture and develop musical talent, helping young people to become the musical and creative leaders of the future. The scheme offers free tuition in chamber music, composition, improvisation and workshop leadership. Participants will have the opportunity to work alongside professional musicians, composers and workshop leaders to deliver workshops for primary school aged children. They will also gain experience of event planning and organisation and will explore ways of increasing accessibility to music and arts events. The scheme will explore new avenues in creative practise, discovering music through its links to art and vice versa with the aim of developing performance skills and providing audience friendly, inclusive performances. The aim is for the Apprenticeship to offer long term support to young musicians making their way in the profession and to provide continued training and development opportunities.

The Apprenticeship is designed for young people aged between 15-18 years old and working at Grade 5 level or above. The first scheme is open to string players only and will take up to 4 apprentices in the 2018/19 season. There are bursaries available  to cover travel expenses for travel to and from Apprenticeship events and rehearsals.

Here's what a previous participant said about Make The Paint Dance: “MTPD was a fantastic opportunity to have a taste of creative learning and participation in a safe and welcoming environment. Megan is a talented and experienced workshop leader who confidently guided us through the project and its values, whilst giving us enough freedom to grow as leaders ourselves and try out our ideas. This experience has proved fundamental in beginning to launch my outreach career. Giving me such a positive first experience, I have gone on to continue to take opportunities to do outreach throughout my studies and have now been offered a fellowship with the Open Academy Department at the Royal Academy of Music in London. My future career plan involves building on experience to become a successful workshop leader and I hope to be able to work for many musical organisations in the future. I am very grateful for the chance I had to explore creative education work with MTPD.” (Alice Poppleton - Masters Royal Academy of Music, Figo Ensemble, Open Academy Fellow 2018)
